The 9.5mm slitter

Hi my Lichtspiel friends,

From my collection in the UK I would like to offer you this slitter for making two strips of 9.5mm film from 35mm stock. It was made by the late Bill Crumplin who was a great boffin and tinkerer and who made much of his own equipment for amateur filmmaking. He was one of those in the British Group 9.5 cine club who was instrumental in keeping services for film stock supply and development going until quite recently. Unfortunately all these efforts have now ceased and to my knowledge no one in the world is now producing new 9.5mm camera stocks even at the club or individual level.

I am going to shoot a 9.5mm film this year but I will use decades old black and white stock and may or may not be lucky to obtain an image! Wouldn’t it be great if in its centenary year we could still film on 9.5 with fresh stocks, perhaps even Ektachrome 100D… Does anyone else have serviceable technology for making 9.5mm film?

Hello, where can I purchase a 9.5mm film slitter?

Hi Rob, 9.5 slitters are specialist tools that are not carried in stock anywhere. If you really want one you would first need to find an engineer who can make you one. Having done that you might also want to commission a perforator!
